The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences has a limited number of scholarships and fellowships available for graduate students. Descriptions of each program and eligibility criteria are given below. Applications are reviewed by the CALS Graduate Scholarships and Awards Committee and awards are made contingent on available funding. Interested students should submit the online application, an academic/research abstract, curriculum vitae/resume and two letters of recommendation by April 15, 2013.
Purpose and Eligibility
The William C. and Bertha M. Cornett Fellowship endowment is used to support fellowships to graduate students in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. The endowment specifies "fellowship" so the graduate student cannot be treated as being on an assistantship and cannot be expected to teach or conduct research other than his/her own work. Graduate students enrolled in College of Agricultural and Life Sciences are eligible to apply.

D. Glynn Davies - Juice Products Association Graduate Scholarship Recipients
Eligibility
The D. Glynn Davies - Juice Products Association Graduate Scholarship is available to juniors, seniors, or graduate students in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Students in the following majors are eligible to apply for this award: Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Agricultural Operations Management, Food and Resource Economics, Food Science and Human Nutrition, and Horticultural Science. The recipients will be selected based on GPA, interest in fruit juice industry, courses in production, processing, packaging, marketing with strong business administration or food technology courses.

Purpose and Eligibility
The George K. and Ruthanna W. Davis Scholarship (i.e. Davis Graduate Nutrition Enhancement Award) is given as an enhancement of $5,000 (subject to change) annually to a graduate student starting a new nutrition degree program at the University of Florida. Graduate students studying human nutrition or any nutrition related area, including animal nutrition, are eligible to apply for this award. This enhancement is for two years for a graduate student pursuing a Master of Science degree and four years for graduate student pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree. Recipients will receive this award as a supplement to an assistantship or fellowship.

Eligibility
The Grebe-Wahlberg Memorial Fund Scholarship is available to graduate students enrolled in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Florida. There is no restriction on eligible majors, but the student must have earned a bachelor's degree from UF. The recipients will be selected based on the following criteria: outstanding leaders academically and in organizations, grade point average, leadership ability, service and extracurricular activities. Graduate student applicants will be ranked by the Graduate Student Awards, Scholarship, and Fellowship committee. Once the rankings are complete, the highest ranked applicants will be sent to the donor committee for review and selection.

Herlong Endowed Graduate Scholarship Recipients
Purpose and Eligibility
The purpose of the Herlong Graduate Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to graduate students whose course of study is in citrus. This scholarship provides a stipend for two years for full-time graduate students (9 - 12 credits per term) conducting research on problems relating directly to the citrus industry. The A.S. Herlong Endowed Scholarship is available to worthy and capable graduate students enrolled in the departments of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Entomology and Nematology, Food and Resource Economics, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Horticultural Science, Microbiology and Cell Science, Plant Pathology, and Soil and Water Science. Harold E. Kendall, Sr. Endowed Graduate Scholarship Recipients
Purpose and Eligibility
The Harold E. Kendall, Sr. Endowed Scholarship is available to worthy and capable “Florida Resident” graduate students enrolled in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Florida. The definition of a “Florida Resident” has been expanded only for this award. Applications will be accepted from graduate students who have the following residency codes:
“F” = Florida Resident

“T” = Florida Resident for Tuition Purposes Only. Pays Florida Fees
The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to “Florida Resident” graduate students whose course of study is Subtropical Fruits. Graduate students working on limes, avocados, and mangos will be given preference. This is a non-renewable scholarship and recipients of the scholarship will be selected on the basis of scholastic achievement and professional promise. In addition, recipients of this scholarship must submit a progress report at the end of Fall semester and a final report at the end of the Spring semester.

Doris Lowe and Earl and Verna Lowe Graduate Scholarship Recipients
Eligibility
The Doris Lowe and Earl and Verna Lowe Scholarship Fund is available to undergraduate or graduate students in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Students in the following majors are eligible to apply this award: Environmental Science, Interdisciplinary Ecology, Forest Resources and Conservation, Natural Resource Conservation, Soil and Water Science, and Wildlife Ecology and Conservation. The recipients will be selected based on merit and potential for contribution to the agricultural and wildlife environment.

Purpose and Eligibility
Bobby F. McKown and several others established this fund in 2003. McKown earned a bachelor's degree in advertising from the University of Florida in 1959. He retired from Florida Citrus Mutual in 1999 as Executive Vice President and CEO. McKown is also the former President and CEO of the Florida Agricultural Research Institute, Inc. His daughter, Mia L. McKown, earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism at UF in 1988 and a doctorate of law from Stetson University Law School in 1990. Undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Horticultural Science are eligible to apply. Preference is given to students specializing in fruit crops.

The William F. Ward Memorial Scholarship endowment supports two awards. One of these monetary awards is available to an outstanding undergraduate or graduate student in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences majoring in an area of horticulture. Agricultural Women's Club & Vam C. York Graduate Scholarship Recipients
Purpose and Eligibility
The purpose of these scholarships are to provide financial assistance to female graduate students within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
To be eligible for these Agricultural Women's Club Scholarships, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Jack L. Fry Graduate Student Teaching Award Recipients
Purpose
To reward excellence in teaching by a CALS graduate student.
Eligibility
All CALS graduate students who have been teaching or course assistants are eligible. Appointment on assistantship is not a necessary criterion. The individual must be a graduate student who has taught or assisted substantially in teaching at least one undergraduate class during the previous year (Spring, Summer, or Fall). Excellence and effectiveness should be demonstrated by supporting documentation and letter(s) of support from the Department/Chair/Center Director and supervisory faculty. Letters of support from former students may also be included. Selection is made by the CALS Graduate Student Awards, Scholarships, and Fellowships Committee.

Jimmy G. Cheek Graduate Student Medal of Excellence Fund Recipients
Eligibility
The Jimmy G. Cheek Graduate Student Medal of Excellence is awarded annually to an outstanding graduate student currently enrolled in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Selection is made by the CALS Graduate Student Awards, Scholarships, and Fellowships Committee. The awardee receives the medal and a monetary award. The recipient shall demonstrate high academic potential and achievement, leadership and community involvement, commitment and passion about his/her chosen field of study, personal sacrifice for his/her education and effort above and beyond the call of duty. Preference will be given to students pursuing a PhD or DPM degree.

Purpose
The IFAS/CALS Graduate Student Travel Grant Program provides matching funds up to $200.00 to each graduate student applicant who is presenting a paper or poster on their original research at a regional, national, or international scientific meeting (one award per fiscal year). This travel grant must be matched 1:1 by funds provided through the student's department/program or advisor. The grants are reimbursed directly to the department, not the graduate student.

All graduate students in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, School of Forest Resources and Conservation, and School of Natural Resources and Environment are eligible.

James Davidson Graduate Travel Scholarship Recipients
Purpose
The purpose of these scholarships is to provide funding to help defray travel expenses for graduate students presenting a paper or poster at a national or international professional meeting or conference. These scholarships are named after Dr. James M. Davidson, former Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, University of Florida, who established the endowment to fund these scholarships.

Purpose
Travel to conferences, symposia, and special research opportunities are essential for the professional development of advanced research students. The University also benefits by being represented at such events. The Office of Research and Graduate Programs (RGP) has therefore established a program to supplement student travel when other funding sources are insufficient. RGP guidelines for travel funding cap awards at $300 per trip and require 1:1 matching funds from the department and/or college. These funds are primarily for assistance with the cost of travel, particularly airfare. These grants are one-time awards to Graduate Students. RGP can not provide any retroactive reimbursements.

Purpose
Each Spring, CALS is awarded Graduate School Fellowships for the upcoming academic year. The Graduate School Fellowship carries an annual stipend of $22,000 (subject to change), health insurance premium, and a full tuition waiver.

Purpose
Grinter fellowships are named in honor of Dr. Linton E. Grinter, who was Dean of the Graduate School, 1952-1969. The intent of the Grinter Fellowship is to facilitate the recruitment of truly exceptional graduate students to the University of Florida through partial stipend support.
Eligibility
Students entering into a Ph.D. program administered within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. For more information, please contact the Graduate Coordinator of your intended Ph.D. program. Grinter Fellowship stipends are normally in the $2,000-$4,000 per year range. Continuation of the Grinter beyond the first year (up to a total of three years) is contingent upon satisfactory student progress.
The Alec Courtelis Award is given annually to three outstanding international graduate students. The award was first given at the 1996 International Student Awards Ceremony by Louise Courtelis in honor of her late husband, Alec Courtelis, a well-known financier and former Chairman of the Board of Regents. A wall plaque bearing the name of the award recipients and the year it was awarded is located at the University of Florida International Center. The University of Florida International Center is pleased to announce they will be presenting three awards this year of $3,000.00, $1,500.00, and $1,500.00 respectively.
Eligibility/Nominating Criteria
1. Currently enrolled in a Master or Doctoral Program.
2. Demonstrates outstanding academic achievement.
3. Contributions to the department, rec center, and college exceed expectations.
4. Contributions and service to campus life at UF and/or statewide educational facility exceed expectations.
5. A non-immigrant student visa holder (F-1 or J-1).
6. Involvement in Gainesville community.
7. Note: If student at statewide educational facility, involvement in local community will suffice.
To nominate international graduate student/s, the academic unit should submit to the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Dean’s Office a nomination packet that includes the following items:
1. Three letters of recommendation to Dr. Al Wysocki (addressing above criteria).
2. Student’s Curriculum Vitae or resume.
The CALS Awards, Scholarships, and Fellowships committee will rank the nominees and the top two nominees' packets will then be forward to the University of Florida International Center's selection committee. The agency established this award to show appreciation for the outstanding service provided by the International Student Services staff. The award will be given in the honor of Mrs. Maud Fraser, who provided outstanding service to international students for 13 years; Mrs. Fraser retired June 30, 2010.
The Scarborough-Maud Fraser Scholarship will be given to one international student enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program in the amount of $1,000.00 each.

Outstanding International Student Award Recipients
Purpose
During the Fall semester, the Dean’s Office will forward a list of international students in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences to all CALS academic units. Each academic unit can nominate one international student (undergraduate and graduate) to be recognized as an outstanding international student. The CALS Awards, Scholarships and Fellowships committee will choose five students from the pool of nominees. The recipient and their faculty advisor (for graduate students) must attend the UFIC International Student Awards Ceremony during the Fall semester. Other faculty and unit administrators are encouraged to attend. This is not a monetary award; students will receive a certificate signed by the College Dean.
Eligibility/Nominating Criteria
1. Minimum GPA of 3.5.
2. Exceptional scholarly research activity.
3. Outstanding participation in the department.
4. Service to the University community.
To nominate an international student, the academic unit should submit a letter of nomination to Dr. Al Wysocki (Associate Dean) addressing the eligibility/nominating criteria. The letter of nomination should be signed by the undergraduate coordinator for undergraduate students or the graduate coordinator for graduate students. The Unit Leaders signature is required on the nomination letter for both undergraduate and graduate students.
A selection committee appointed by the University of Florida International Center will choose and rank the submitted nominees. This award will be presented at the UFIC Awards Ceremony on Wednesday November 14, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at a location to be announced.
