What is the Minor in Leadership?
The interdisciplinary Minor in Leadership, in conjunction with students' successful completion of their degree program, is designed to provide students with fundamental skills and knowledge necessary to assume positions in supervision and management in private companies and nonprofit organizations. Because the minor is interdisciplinary, it will draw on the expertise of faculty and staff in colleges across the campus, including Agricultural and Life Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Health and Human Performances, Journalism and Communications, and Liberal Arts and Sciences.
How Does This Help Me?
Professionals in almost every field indicate the need for college graduates to be able to supervise and manage people, to act ethically, and to communicate effectively. This minor includes courses that allow students to learn these necessary skills. Students will take courses in leadership theory and practice, ethics, and communications. Students also will take an elective course that pertains to one of three areas of leadership: organizational leadership, community leadership, or public policy leadership.
What are the Requirements?
A cumulative GPA of 2.75 is necessary to be admitted into the minor. Students also must make a B or higher in the required leadership theory and practice course (AEE 3414: Leadership Development) to continue in the minor. A GPA of 3.0 in all courses taken in the minor is required for the minor to be conferred. Students must complete 15 hours of coursework. The minor is open to all University of Florida students.
How Do I Apply for Admission?
Go by your dean's office and pick up an Application to Add or Cancel a Minor form. The deans of your college and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (2002 McCarty Hall) will need to sign the form. Only those students who meet the entering GPA requirement will be admitted to the Minor in Leadership.
