CALS Pre-Health
Professional schools seek students with proven knowledge of their intended health profession, a commitment to service, and scientific curiosity. CALS has a dedicated pre-health advisor who works closely with UF's pre-health advising team.
What Should I Major In?
Any major can be a pre-health major with careful planning, and working with an academic advisor early can help propel you on the right track to your career goals. However, the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences has six majors that align with the pre-requisite courses for health professional schools, such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine. This includes tracks within:
- Animal Sciences
- Biology
- Entomology and Nematology
- Microbiology and Cell Science
- Nutritional Sciences
- Wildlife Ecology and Conservation
You are encouraged to choose a major that interests you or fits into your parallel path of career options. Family, Youth and Community Sciences is an excellent social science major that aligns with many human health interests.
How can advising help?
Meeting with an advisor early in your academic plan can help ensure you are on track to reach your career goals. The topics of discussion provided below are a guide, but everyone's timeline may be different.
Professional Development
All CALS students are encouraged to explore professional development and learning opportunities beyond the classroom. To make sure these experiences are accessible to all, CALS students have the unique option to apply for funding support through the VP Promise, an initiative that allows students to explore their interests through research, study abroad, internships and more by providing financial assistance. Learn more about the VP Promise or apply for funding using the VP Promise application.
