What Should I Major In?

Professional Schools want you to pick a major in something you find interesting! It does not have to be science related, as long as you complete the prerequisite courses required by the schools. UF/IFAS College of Agricultural and Life Sciences offers several majors that align with the pre-requisites for health professional schools, such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine. This includes tracks within:

  • Animal Sciences
  • Biology
  • Entomology and Nematology
  • Microbiology and Cell Science
  • Nutritional Sciences
  • Wildlife Ecology and Conservation

You are encouraged to choose a major that interests you or fits into your parallel path of career options. Family, Youth and Community Sciences is an excellent social science major that aligns with many human health interests.

Professional Development

All CALS students are encouraged to explore professional development and learning opportunities beyond the classroom. To make sure these experiences are accessible to all, CALS students have the unique option to apply for funding support through the VP Promise, an initiative that allows students to explore their interests through research, study abroad, internships and more by providing financial assistance. Learn more about the VP Promise or apply for funding using the VP Promise application.
